Positive Parenting in a Digitally Saturated World

Author: Mama Crossroads

I'm a mother, and a FIGHTER. We all have our battles and I've had my fair share. But if I can make it through this madness (divorce, abuse, single parenting, co-parenting, molestation, infertility, autoimmune disease, major surgeries, chronic pain ... you name it, I've been there), then you can too. You are stronger than you think! Slowly but surely, we can convert these experiences into FUEL for better things ahead. We can teach our kids. We can inspire those around us for good. And we can change the world.

Rookie at the U.N. Part 2: The People There

One of my amazing friends and colleagues posted this picture recently. I just found it this morning. It’s from the “good old days,” and I’ve actually never seen it before. It made me want to laugh and cry at the same time. Don’t I look so busy and important? I’m anxiously engaged in the cause… Read More Rookie at the U.N. Part 2: The People There

Every Breath

You just took a breath. And another one. Did you even notice the one before? We do it thousands of times a day. The oxygen moves into our lungs and goes on to do amazing things in our body. The process repeats. And we don’t even think twice. But now I do. I have pneumonia. And… Read More Every Breath

Pitching Internet Safety to the PTA

As many of you know, I’ve had a major shift this past year. I’ve gone from working in the fast lane in the Movement to End Sexual Exploitation, in the thick of things on Capitol Hill and at the United Nations … back to stay-at-home mama and part-timer. And now all my kiddos are gone… Read More Pitching Internet Safety to the PTA

Letting go

I’m hovering four stories in the air on a little blue platform. A soft wind begins to blow. I’d usually welcome it on a steamy summer day like this, but not at the moment. Instead of cooling me off, the breeze causes everything around me to sway, increasing my terror. As my pulse races, I hear… Read More Letting go

Too weary to fake it

I keep waiting for a normal day. I saw a meme once that said “normal” is just a setting on a washing machine. I hear that. But after trauma, after divorce, after millions of hours of counseling, after … after … after … Aren’t we supposed to get past the dreaded SURVIVAL MODE? If you’ve… Read More Too weary to fake it

Defining a day

Did you have a good day? I wonder how we ever really answer that question. How do we sort through the moments, like so many puzzle pieces, and label a day “good” or “bad”? Here are some of mine … I’m sweating today because our air conditioner is broken. Again. We have to replace the… Read More Defining a day

Families, Olympics, and Little Bugs

After 6 weeks away with their dad, my sweet children are finally home. Now what do you think I’m going to say next? Here’s how I pictured it in my mind: Hubby and me standing at the end of the jetway at the airport and the boys running in slow motion toward us. Everyone in… Read More Families, Olympics, and Little Bugs

Boys are like blue jeans

A couple weeks ago in a post about my sister’s engagement, I left a little cliff hanger … “Today, as my mom and I were driving to pick up the wedding dress, she said something about the right guy fitting like ‘your favorite pair of blue jeans.’ … That analogy really hit home … and I have a great deal… Read More Boys are like blue jeans

Life is My Canvas

So … my first attempt at the “Blended Family” project … Remember how I said I’ve spent several moments standing in the art aisle at random craft stores staring blankly into space? It’s like I’m paralyzed with fear that if I invest in new paints and brushes and a pretty canvas, I’ll just screw it… Read More Life is My Canvas

Winds of Change

I’m back from a very short, but well-deserved run-away with my husband! Did you miss me? Did you even notice I was gone? I did! I always get that nagging pang of guilt when it’s Wednesday and I haven’t written–even when I’m lying on the beach! Life has been … well … hectic, to say… Read More Winds of Change
