In praise of plain Jane

Dear Jane, I know who you are. Sometimes I’ve walked with you. Other times we’ve connected from afar. But I am aware of you. I think of you often. More than you know. You haven’t written any books, appeared on any talk shows, had your picture in the newspaper, or gotten millions of hits on… Read More In praise of plain Jane

Beautiful words and black sludge

Flashback to … February 4, 2013 “May we have the Spirit of the Master dwelling within us, that we may forgive all men as He has commanded, forgive, not only with our lips but in the very depths of our hearts, every trespass that may have been committed against us. If we do this through… Read More Beautiful words and black sludge

Why I’m not afraid…

Flashback to … February 8, 2013 195 days. That’s how long ago Christian and I started seeing each other. And we’ve seen each other every single day since. I think it’s safe to say that we are in a serious relationship. 🙂 The other day I was talking to someone about him, and she asked… Read More Why I’m not afraid…

Rebound vs. slam dunk

Flashback to January 11, 2013 … People often ask if Christian is a “rebound relationship” for me. Ah, the dreaded term. You know, he even asked me himself once. Rebound relationship. What does that even mean? It sounds so insulting. It minimizes the importance of the relationship to pretty much nil, doesn’t it? It makes… Read More Rebound vs. slam dunk

What did you do with the ring?

She cuddles beside her fiance in the chilly theater, watching the movie … but not. She’d rather watch the image replay over and over in her mind of the man beside her, only hours ago, kneeling at her feet. She’s giddy and distracted by the new piece of glitter on her left hand. Even in… Read More What did you do with the ring?

Grounded in paradise

Flashback to October 24, 2012… I’m missing you guys. But I’m still here, and I’m still listening.
I’ve just been a little — uh — otherwise occupied. You see, I’m somewhat in heaven. But still grounded. It feels good. I have a companion. I’m experiencing some sunshine in my soul. It’s been so, so, so… Read More Grounded in paradise

Back in the mix

Flashback to August 24, 2012… I’m starting my new life. I’ve been liberated. But now that the chains of abuse, neglect, and mistreatment are gone, at times I’m not quite sure what to do with myself. I’m unsure how to feel, how to love again. Am I doing it right? Maybe I don’t want to… Read More Back in the mix

D-Day

Tremors. And night terrors. This week in my dreams, I’ve seen my two-year old hit by a car and been chased down by police cars at the speed of light. Phantoms of a disturbed mind. On the surface, I enjoy my amazing life, my wonderful husband, my beautiful boys. But today, shadows from the past… Read More D-Day

We all have our battles and I've had my fair share. But if I can make it through this madness (addiction, divorce, abuse, single parenting, co-parenting, molestation, infertility, autoimmune disease, connective tissue disorders ... you name it, I've been there), then you can too. You are stronger than you think!

Slowly but surely, we can convert these experiences into FUEL for better things ahead. We can teach our kids. We can inspire those around us for good. And we can change the world.
